Overview

The School of Community of Global Health offers a Master of Science (M.S.) in Applied Biostatistics, which emphasizes the statistical methods commonly used in biomedical and public health research.

This program is offered [in-person/online] and can be completed in [unit of time] of full-time attendance. 

Program Outcomes

The program provides instruction to:

  • Apply basic and advanced principles and methods to design experimental and observational studies in the areas of biomedical and public health research;
  • Describe key concepts and theory underlying biostatistical methodology used in probability and inferential and descriptive statistics;
  • Employ appropriate statistical approaches and techniques to analyze and summarize biomedical and public health data;
  • Develop solid programming and data management skills with common statistical software packages for data analysis;
  • Interpret the results of statistical analysis in the context of biomedical and public health research; and
  • Communicate biostatistical concepts and pivotal aspects of study design, data management and analysis, results, and conclusion to lay and professional audiences through oral and written communications

Degree Requirements

A minimum of 38 units are required for the degree. Additionally, students must complete Supervised Filed Practical Training.

School of Community and Global Health (SCGH) Practical Experience Milestone

Students pursing a Master of Science in Applied Biostatistics must meet the Practical Experience Milestone by completing a supervised field training experience within an approved agency or research project (paid or unpaid, for credit or not for credit).

Students must have their milestone approved by the School prior to the submission of their completed Final Approval Form. This milestone is to be completed during the time to degree at CGU (7 years for doctoral students, 5 years for masters students). Students may have a maximum of 4 years of experience for the Practical Experience Milestone.

Transfer Credit

The University’s policy on transfer credit applies. The MS program permits the transfer of up to 6 semester units from prior graduate work completed outside of CGU with advisor approval.
