2025-2026 Bulletin: Program Requirements

1-Year Master’s Program

The 1-Year Master’s program is an accelerated graduate pathway that allows students to begin taking graduate-level courses and earning graduate credit as early as their sophomore year. These credits can be applied toward a master’s degree, which is awarded only after the bachelor’s degree is completed.

Please note: Students cannot graduate with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree at the same time. This pathway is designed to jumpstart the master’s degree—not complete it while enrolled at an undergraduate institution.

How the Program Works

  1. Apply Early. Apply for a master’s program through the Claremont Colleges 1-Year Master’s Application – typically during the junior year – for a future semester.
  2. Cross-Register for Courses. Students will coordinate a course plan in consultation with their undergraduate advisor. Limits on the number of cross-registered coursework that may apply to the graduate degree varies by program. Students are reccomended to contact department staff for more information.
  3. Earn the Bachelor’s degree. Student’s must earn their bachelor’s degree and provide an updated official transcript to the CGU Admissions Office prior to enrolling in the graduate degree at CGU.
  4. Receive Graduate Program Credit. Once matriculated, students will consult with their CGU academic advisor to file the necessary paperwork to apply any cross-registered course or transfer credit to their graduate program. All transfer credit policies apply.
  5. Enroll at CGU. Students will formally begin their academic career as a CGU student by enrolling in courses, selected in consultation with their academic advisor.
