With the rise of high-quality educational technology, and growing student demand for flexible, accessible and reputable graduate program offerings, Claremont Graduate University has committed to begin providing high-quality instruction for selected programs through the use of Distance Education. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) defines Distance Education as: “a formal interaction which uses one or more technologies to deliver instruction to students who are separated from the instructor and which supports regular and substantive interaction between the students and instructor, either synchronously or asynchronously.” [1]
The implementation of Distance Education produces unique demands on students, faculty, staff and administrators. In accordance with Title V, CGU is dedicated to maintaining the effectiveness of its online learning environment and ensuring that instructors and students are in regular contact with each other through the use of e-mail, online class discussions, electronic announcements, and e-lectures, and for the purpose of providing students timely feedback on lecture- and course-related activities. The programs offered by Claremont Graduate University’s Distance Education platform are aligned with the overall mission, goals and values of the university, and encourages the broader development, expansion and improvement of Distance Education methodologies to ensure students receive the highest quality of instruction and guidance during the course of their online program of choice.
