Advanced Study of Evaluation, Certificate

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Programs

The Certificate in Advanced Study in Evaluation is primarily a distance-based program designed for evaluators with experience in the field. Advanced methodologies for conducting evaluation and the intersection of evaluation theory and research with on-the-ground practice are covered in depth. The program culminates with a practicum experience tailored to the current practice or research interests of each student.

Prospective students meet with Evaluation Faculty to design a program of study.  For students who are not in Claremont, a conference call is arranged. Experienced evaluators with prior graduate courses and university-based professional development training may be able to complete the certificate requirements in a relatively short period of time, such as two semesters, mostly from a distant location.

University Policies.  University policies detailed in the Academic Policies  section of the Bulletin apply for all certificate students.

Components of the Program

Residency-Based Evaluation Courses

For students with previous graduate education, six units may be transferred in.

Distance-Based Evaluation Courses

Those who have entered the program with prior graduate training in quantitative analysis and research methodology are required to complete the following study components.

Professional Development in Evaluation

American Evaluation Association Conference

Attendance at the American Evaluation Association Conference is required.  Participation in the evaluation community is crucial to understanding the issues faced by professionals in the field today. The conference also provides an opportunity for program participants to convene as a group to meet other participants, faculty, and program alumni.
