The English program provides an environment that is student-centered and characterized at the instructional level by faculty advising and small seminar classes. Students design individual pathways of study, both within the department or with other departments at CGU.
The academic program emphasizes both breadth in American and British literatures and the development of research and area expertise at the doctoral level. Doctoral students may elect to concentrate on any period of American literature (pre or post 1900) or British literature (pre or post 1750). Formal concentrations are available in the transdisciplinary fields of American Studies, Early Modern Studies, Hemispheric & Transnational Studies, Media Studies, Museum Studies, and Continental Philosophy. All degree tracks allow students to integrate topics in other humanistic disciplines with research in literature in relation to critical, cultural, and historical questions.
