ART 305 - Art Foundations In this class we will focus on each student’s capacity to engage a wide range of works of art, approaching contemporary paintings, sculptures, installations, and videos with empathy and objectivity-and always with the goal of sharpening perceptions, expanding awareness, and enriching our experiences of the world around us. In each meeting we will undertake constructive critiques of one another’s works. Topics for discussion will include the intention of the work of art, the materials used to embody those intentions, and the context, both artistic and social, personal, and public, surrounding both. Questions of style will be considered, along with the way each work addresses each viewer, making demands and rewarding attentiveness in its own manner. The class will also offer brief, practical demonstrations regarding topics related to procedures in installation, lighting and other requested material preparations for exhibition. Units: 3 Course Type: Seminar
