TNDY 446 - Foundations in Data Storytelling


Data is everywhere and yet, not well harnessed for organization use. The course provides the knowledge, skills, and tools for data storytelling. While this might appear obvious, critical understanding of the visual principles, accurate data displays, and audience information acquisition are keys that facilitate, awareness, engagement, and decision-making. Data storytelling will begin with standard academic displays and move to an introduction in dynamic dashboarding that bridges the gap to make complex information more accessible and equitable. In this course, we will frame the storytelling activities through a transdisciplinary topics, skills, and pedagogy that can create change and move to action. This course will in hybrid format and students will need access to a computer for online sessions and technology. A working knowledge of basic statistics and excel are helpful and the instructor will introduce students to dashboarding tools like Tableau and Microsoft Power BI.
