PSYCH 351Q - Applied Developmental Psych In this course we will examine the applications of developmental theory and research to contemporary social issues that impact the healthy development and well-being of children and families. Applying a life-course and ecological perspectives, a range of topics will be covered throughout the semester. Examples include: the influences of maternal employment; non-maternal child care; divorce, single parenthood, and teenage parenting; adoption and foster care; child abuse; poverty; mass media; violence; and social and welfare policies on children’s development. We will also spend some time identifying private and public agencies that work with children and youth, and discussing how best to translate developmental research findings for use by practitioners and policy makers.
