PSYCH 350V - Intervention Development

This course presents an overview of various health behaviors that can be potentially targeted for change and reviews approaches to intervention and program development to so as to change targeted behaviors. There will be a focus on the identification of behavioral determinants-with a special aim of differentiating those that are structural/biological vs. those that are amenable to change. Classic studies that address changing health behaviors in both the public health and clinical medical context will be reviewed. Examples of the former include tobacco prevention, and HIV/AIDS prevention, while examples of the latter include promoting breast cancer screening and compliance with medical regimens. It is expected that, at the end of this course, students will be able to identify behaviors amenable to change and to design programs targeting such behaviors. This course may be repeated for credit.
