PSYCH 315B - Psychometrics This course offers an introduction to psychometrics, focusing on the principles and methods used to measure psychological constructs. Students will explore the theoretical foundations of psychological measurement, including classical test theory, factor analysis, reliability, validity, and item response theory. Practical applications will be emphasized through data analysis and the critical evaluation of psychological tests. By the end of the course, students will be able to design, analyze, and assess psychological measures in a variety of contexts, from personality to cognitive assessments. Through lectures, hands-on data analysis, and readings from current research and foundational texts, this course prepares students for advanced work in psychological measurement and assessment, with an emphasis on both theoretical understanding and practical skills.
Course Objectives:
• Understand the foundations of test theory and its application to psychological measures.
• Develop skills in evaluating and interpreting the reliability and validity of psychological tests.
• Gain experience in psychometric analyses, including factor analysis and item response theory.
