PSYCH 302A - Research Methods This course surveys contemporary research methods in psychology. After a brief introduction to the philosophy of science, the major emphasis in the early portion of the course is on research conceptualization, design, and measurement, with a particular focus on the logic of minimizing the number of viable alternative explanations for a set of findings. The second part of the course covers issues of interpretation – from detecting data patterns to inferring whether a set of findings can be generalized to other people, places, and time periods. A number of specialized topics and the ethics of psychological studies are also covered.
This course may be repeated for credit. Units: 4 Enrollment is exclusive to students who have previously passed PSYCH 302A AND are students in the M.A. in Psychology program. Course Type: Seminar
