WGS 331 - Black Feminist Theory

This graduate level course offers an advanced exploration of Black women’s intellectual tradition—examining salient theoretical frameworks in Black feminism, including intersectionality, womanism, post-intersectionality, and queer Black feminism. This course goes beyond conventional boundaries, incorporating texts that explore transnational Black feminism and Black male feminism as well. From foundational theorists like Hazel Carby, Hortense Spillers, and Patricia Hill Collins, to contemporary voices, such as Jennifer Nash, Brittney Cooper, Alexis Gumbs, and LH Stallings, this course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the intellectual foundations shaping contemporary dialogues in the field. This course counts towards the Women and Gender Studies certificate.
