ART 349 - Survey of Contemporary Art

“The Great Wheel of Art: Art in the United States and Europe, 1957-74”. This class introduces students to some of the most influential art made in California, New York, and Europe from just before the beginning of the 1960s to just after. It examines the transatlantic and transcontinental dialogues that emerged among artists before globalism transformed the art-world into what is now: a multinational, corporate-style enterprise that combines aspects of the entertainment industry, the education business, and naked commercial speculation.
