Information Systems & Technology, MS

The Master of Science in Information Systems & Technology (MSIST) offers a distinct blend of practical application and theoretical focus. The curriculum has been designed to provide technical and managerial knowledge, valuable for students intending to go into practice or to transition into a doctoral program. The program’s design welcomes students with or without a background in information technology.

Degree Requirements

Coursework. A total of 36 units (32 units for working professonals, upon faculty approval) are required.

Transfer Credit. The University’s policy on transfer credit applies. For the MSIST, up to 4 units of previous graduate coursework may be transferred. Students who transfer 4 units may not waive the Practicum course requirement.

Competency Courses

The competency courses do not count towards the 36 units required for the Master’s degree.

One (1) Transdisciplinary Course and (1) Practicum:

Practicum (can be waived with approval for working professionals)

Three Specialization Courses- 12 units

Five specialization areas are offered.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Cybersecurity and Networking
Health Informatics
IT Strategy and Innovation

Students take three courses in one of these areas or work with a faculty member to design a customized track. This flexibility allows students to develop expertise in one or more sub-fields as desired. Additional information is available on the department website.
