Fellowship Funds


Students do not apply for specific fellowships, but are considered for awards as part of the awarding of institutional fellowships. No separate application is required. 

The University gratefully acknowledges the contributions of many donors to support institutional fellowships.  The funds listed below support awards to current students.

Ahmanson Foundation Endowed Fellowship.  Provides fellowship assistance to high achieving students in any discipline.

AIG SunAmerica Fellowships. Providing need-based fellowships to high-ability students who are recruited annually to the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management.

Paul and Bernice Albrecht Endowed Fellowship. An endowed fellowship awarded to an outstanding student in the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management to commemorate the contributions of Paul and Bernice Albrecht.

Hollis and Janet Allen Fellowship. This fellowship is provided to a student studying administration, government, or political science in the School of Educational Studies in honor of late Professor Hollis Allen and Janet Allen.

Friends of American Institute of Economic Research Fellowship. This fellowship supports students studying Economics.

John W. Bachmann Scholars Fellowship. An endowed fellowship that provides need-based fellowships to high ability students in the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management.

Marilynn Monroe Balasco Fellowship. An endowed fellowship awarded annually to a student in the School of Educational Studies.

Candace Mary Barrett Memorial Fellowship.  This fellowship is awarded to a female student in the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management who has an interest in real estate or who has experience working with drug rehabilitation, non-profits, or women’s studies.

Benson Management Fellowship. This fellowship is open to students in the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management.

Robert J. Bernard Fellowship. An endowed fund established by the late Robert J. Bernard to support students in any discipline except Executive Management.

George S. Blair Fellowship. Established in memory of the late professor, George S. Blair, the fellowship is offered to a promising second year student in the Division of Politics and Economics who is studying politics and policy.

Conrad Briner Endowed Fellowship. This fellowship is awarded to a student studying administration in the School of Educational Studies.

General Philip Bronson Memorial Fellowship.  This fellowship, created in memory of Philip Bronson, supports a student in any discipline.

Howard and Phoebe Brown Endowed Fellowship. This fellowship provides support for a student in the Teacher Education Program whose focus is on math and science education.

Marguerite Brydegaard Trust Fellowship. This fellowship was established by the estate of the late Marguerite Brydegaard, alumna of the School of Educational Studies, for a student in the Teacher Education program.

C. Raymond and Marion Buck Memorial Fellowship. This fellowship was provided by Raymond Buck, an alumnus of the School of Educational Studies, and is open to students in all disciplines.

Edwin and Marjorie Clarke Fellowship Fund. This fund provides support for a student in the School of Educational Studies.

Ida Lloyd Crotty Endowed Scholarship. This endowed scholarship supports an outstanding woman scholar studying history in memory of Howard and Ida Crotty.

Pauline Freda Cummings Fellowship Fund. This fund provides support to a full-time student in any program.

Susan M. Daniels Scholarship. This scholarship provides dissertation research support for a distinguished student pursuing a doctoral degree who has demonstrated particular excellence in, and a passion for, disability research.

Guy Dobbs Memorial Fellowship. This fellowship supports African-American students pursuing advanced degrees in Management and was established to recognize the work and contributions of former trustee Guy H. Dobbs.

Helen B. Dooley Art Fellowship. Scholarships are provided to talented students in the graphic and/or sculptural arts, through the generosity of the late Helen B. Dooley.

Aubrey A. and Malcolm P. Douglass Memorial Fellowship. This fellowship provides assistance for a student in the School of Educational Studies whose focus is cross-cultural studies in education, reading development in young children, geographical education, or social studies.

Doris Drucker Fellowship for Women Leaders. This fellowship is awarded to a full-time female MBA student who has shown leadership and social responsibility in her community.

George and Sandra Felkenes Fellowship. This fund provides aid to a student studying in any field.

Laura P. Fernandez Endowed Fellowship. This fellowship is awarded to a Master’s student in the English department in memory of Laura P. Fernandez.

Kenneth G. Fiske Memorial Fellowship. This is an endowed fellowship awarded annually to a student enrolled in the Music program.

Ethel K. Forcinelli Endowment in Special Education. This fellowship supports students who emphasize holistic special education in their study, thesis, or dissertation topics, and career interests.

Eric Gable Memorial Fellowship. This is an endowed fellowship awarded with preference to students conducting research on birds of prey.

Corinne H. Gallman Fellowship. This fellowship supports students in the School of Educational Studies who plan to teach music in the elementary grades.

Anne and Larry Glenn Fellowship. This fellowship supports a student studying in any discipline.

Lawrence and Anne Glenn Endowed Fellowship. This fellowship supports a talented and deserving student pursuing a degree in the School of Educational Studies, made possible by the generosity of Trustee Lawrence Glenn and Anne Glenn.

Margo L. Goldsmith Fellowship. A full-time tuition fellowship in the Women’s Studies in Religion program.

Barbara Greenwood Fellowship in Memory of June Hyman. An endowed fellowship awarded annually to a student enrolled in the Teacher Education Program who is specializing in child development and/or early childhood education.

C.E. and Bertha M. Harsh Memorial Fellowship. This fund provides fellowships to Art and Music students, with a preference going to Pomona College graduates.

Hausam/Fisk Award. This award is for a doctoral student in the higher education subfield who exemplifies excellence in academic studies, scholarly writing, internship experiences, and extraordinary service to students in the higher education program.

William Randolph Hearst Foundation Scholarship. Fellowship funds have been provided by an endowment from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation in support of minority students in the Teacher Education Program.

Dorothy B., Janice L., and William H. Heide Fellowship. An award to a woman or women students studying management, with a preference for doctoral students.

Grace Hobson-Smith Music Fellowship. Provides fellowships for students in music.

Emily Ann Horowitz Memorial Fellowship. Fellowship assistance for high achieving students in the Art and Education programs is granted from a fund established by the Horowitz family in memory of Emily Ann Horowitz, an M.F.A. graduate of Claremont Graduate University.

Howard Houston Scholarship. Scholarship support for a student in any discipline provided by the generosity of the late Howard R. Houston.

The James Irvine Foundation Endowed Fellowships. Awards are made to support California residents from a fund established by the James Irvine foundation.

JW and Ida M. Jameson Foundation Statesmanship Award. This award is open to students in the Division of Politics and Economics who are studying and researching statesmanship.

Matthew and Roberta Jenkins Fellowship. This fellowship supports an African American student(s) studying in any discipline.

Michael J. and Mary C. Johnston Endowed Fellowship in American Politics. A full-tuition fellowship for a doctoral student studying American politics offered through the generosity of Trustee Michael J. Johnston and Mary C. Johnston.

Michael and Mary Johnston Scholars Fund. This fund provides full tuition for a doctoral student’s first year as well as a stipend for each of their first two semesters.

The Fletcher Jones Foundation Fellowship. The fund provides fellowship aid to students in any field.

The Fletcher Jones Information Science Scholars Fellowship. This fund provides scholarship support to students in the Center of Information Systems and Technology.

Felix and Helen Juda Endowed Fellowship. Funds for this fellowship have been provided by an endowment from emeritus trustee Felix Juda and are used to support a student in any discipline.

Tae Han Kim Scholarship. This fellowship provides support to students in the School of Educational Studies who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to respect for humanity and culture.

Lenore Kreiger Fellowship. A fund supporting fellowships in the School of Educational Studies for students teaching in math or science.

John M. Krenkel Fellowship. Established by the late John Krenkel, the fund provides fellowship support to first-year students pursuing a degree in mathematics, botany, or management.

Lathrop Family Fellowship. A fellowship awarded to a student pursuing a Master’s degree at the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management.

Luther J. Lee, Jr. Memorial Fellowship. This is an annual fellowship given to a student studying Political Science.

Ada E. Leeke Memorial Fellowship. Awarded to students of excellence in History or English.

Joan and David Lincoln Endowment for Ceramic Art. A fellowship awarded annually to two Master of Fine Arts students studying ceramic art.

Mahaffie Family Fellowship. This fellowship is awarded to a PhD student that has demonstrated an interest in teaching and learning.

Betty S. Martin Memorial Fellowship. An annual award to a student who is academically qualified in accordance with the policies of the University. The fund was established in memory of Betty S. Martin, who graduated from CGU in 1939.

George H. Mayr Endowed Fellowship. This fellowship provides an annual award to a deserving California resident pursuing a degree in any field.

Pamela M. Mullin Dream and Believe Award.  This award provides both public encouragement and generous financial support to a doctoral student who has shown exceptional promise by taking the first steps to realizing an ambitious and rewarding dream.

John and Irene Nugent Memorial Fund. This fund provides support to a student in any program.

Stuart Oskamp Fellowship. Awarded by the generosity of CGU emeritus faculty member Stuart Oskamp to assist exemplary students in Psychology.

The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation Information Science Fellowship. Awarded to students pursuing a graduate degree in Information Science.

Douglas and Ethel Pearce Fellowship. A fellowship established to cover the full cost of tuition for one student.

Joseph and Elizabeth Peeler Fellowship. Fellowship support for students majoring in the fields of Mathematics and Science is provided by the generosity of the late Joseph D. and Elizabeth B. Peeler.

Mary Pickford Foundation Fellowship. An endowed fellowship restricted to female students pursuing advanced degrees in Management.

Joseph B. and Jean Platt Fellowship. Fellowship awarded to a student in the School of Educational Studies.

James W. Porter Fellowship. An endowed fund providing fellowship support to an Asian student in any discipline.

Dr. Helen R. Powell Dissertation Fellowship. This fund, established by the late Dr. Helen R. Powell, provides fellowship assistance to a doctoral student in the School of Educational Studies whose dissertation research is on topics which are creative and innovative in the fields of elementary school curriculum content, organization, and teaching techniques.

Charles Reckefus Fellowship. This fellowship provides support for doctoral students in Psychology whose research is related to strokes and their causes, prevention, effects, and treatment.

Selina Reed-Brown Fellowship. This fund is used to support an African-American student in any discipline.

Margaret Regan Memorial Fellowship. This fellowship is awarded to an exceptional international woman graduate student in recognition of her outstanding leadership and contributions made to I-Place, CGU, and the Claremont Colleges.

Muriel & David Robinson Fellowship. This fellowship provides support to a student in any discipline.

Henry Schroeder Endowed Fellowship. This fellowship is open to students in any program.

Schuster Higher Education Student Fund. Students in the School of Educational Studies apply to this fund which provides financial assistance for students to pursue extraordinary educational and professional opportunities.

Lewis W. Snider Single Parent Student Fellowship. This fellowship was provided through the generosity of emeritus faculty member Dr. Lewis W. Snider and is awarded to a student in the Division of Politics and Economics who is a single parent.

Joseph Sonneman Photography Prize. The photography prize, in memory of Dr. Joseph A. Sonneman, provides an annual cash prize to a photography student in the School of Arts and Humanities with a preference for black and white documentary work.

Carolyn Spanier-Ladwig German Proficiency Fund.  This fund is intended to encourage student projects and research in areas that require the proficient use of German, including but not limited to music, philosophy, history, literature, and religion.

Peter Lincoln Spencer Fellowship. An annual fellowship, awarded to a second year student in the Teacher Education Program who has demonstrated flexibility, innovation, and concern for students as well as an understanding of the broad principles of the concept of reading as developed by Peter Lincoln Spencer.

Starr Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a high ability management student in honor of the work and contributions of John W. Bachmann, Peter F. Drucker, and Doris Drucker.

The John Stauffer Community Fellows. The community fellows program in the Division of Behavioral & Organizational Sciences supports graduate education for selected leaders from community organizations and an internship program which pays for advanced graduate students to provide consulting services to community agencies (at no cost to the agencies).

The John Stauffer Endowed Fellowship. An award is made each year to a worthy student in the Division of Behavioral and Organizational Sciences.

WR Strong Horticulture Fund. This fellowship is open to students in all programs.

Francisca Toery-Kohler Memorial Fellowship.  This fellowship was established by Mr. And Mrs. Antone Kohler in memory of their daughter, Francisca Toery-Kohler.  It provides assistance to a worthy second-year student to aid them in achieving their educational and vocational goals.

Suno Utsumi Fellowship. This fellowship supports a student pursuing a career in teaching at the college/university level.

H. Jerry Voorhis Memorial Fellowship for Public Service. This fellowship has been made possible by The Voorhis Viking Alumni Association in memory of H. Jerry Voorhis and is awarded to an outstanding student(s) in Education, History, and/or Politics.

Irvin C. Walker and Lois P. Parker Memorial Fellowships in the Arts. This fellowship provides financial assistance to students in the Arts at CGU.

Kathryn Z. Weed Endowed Fellowship. This fellowship, in memory of alumna and author Kathryn Z. Weed, supports doctoral students in the School of Educational Studies in the fields of reading and/or multicultural/bilingual education. Preference is given to minority students.

Stuart Jardine Wolfenden Scholarship. Established in memory of Stuart Jardine Wolfenden to support a student of languages.
