Student Health Insurance Policies

DOMESTIC AND UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS

Overview

CGU’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) through UnitedHealthcare is required for all domestic and undocumented students enrolled in six or more units.

Waiver Options:

Students with comparable coverage can waive out of the Student Health Insurance Plan.

Students will receive an email from CGU Health Insurance (healthins@cgu.edu) that will link them to UnitedHealthcare’s waiver management system site.  If the student’s existing coverage meets the minimum requirements, and the waiver request is completed during the waiver request period, the waiver management system will remove them from being automatically enrolled. Students that do not take action to enroll or waive out of insurance will receive a registration hold.

Students enrolled in less than six units but interested in enrolling in the domestic plan should contact healthins@cgu.edu.

Plan Information:

The current SHIP website, which includes coverage information is available online: https://www.uhcsr.com/CGU

Leave of Absences:

Students on a medical leave of absence will not be removed or have their policy canceled for that semester. If a student requests a leave of absence (non-medical) by each term’s regular session add/drop deadline, they will not be enrolled in the SHIP policy.

Dependents:

Students interested in enrolling their dependent(s) should email: healthins@cgu.edu.

Eligible Dependents are the student’s legal spouse or domestic partner and dependent children under 26 years of age.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PLANS (F-1 and J-1 Visas)

Overview

CGU requires all international students on F-1 or J-1 visas, whose active SEVIS record is held by CGU to enroll in the GeoBlue Accident and Sickness plan, unless eligible for a waiver. Coverage through the university plan, or a comparable health insurance plan is mandatory for all F-1 and J-1 international students who are registered in coursework, doctoral study or continuous registration.

Plan Information:

International students will be able to access their account information through GeoBlueʻs member site. After registering their account, students can download their insurance ID cards, locate doctors and hospitals, and much more. https://www.geobluestudents.com/

Leave of Absences:

International students on a medical leave of absence who are enrolled in the plan will continue to remain on the plan for that semester. Students on a leave of absence (non-medical) by each term’s regular session add/drop deadline, will not be enrolled in the GeoBlue plan.

Dependents:

F-1 and J-1 students interested in enrolling their dependent(s) should email: healthins@cgu.edu.

Summer Start:

All incoming summer-start international students will not be enrolled in the GeoBlue plan until the first fall semester of their academic program. If summer-start students would like coverage for the summer months, please email: healthins@cgu.edu.

Other Visa Holders:

All other international visa holders are exempt from the GeoBlue plan, and will not be charged the ISS fee.
