The Master of Science in Information Systems & Technology (MSIST) offers a distinct blend of practical application and theoretical focus. The curriculum has been designed to provide technical and managerial knowledge, valuable for students intending to go into practice or to transition into a doctoral program. The program’s design welcomes students with or without a background in information technology.
Degree Requirements
Coursework. A total of 44 units are required.
Transfer Credit. The University’s policy on transfer credit applies. For the MIST, up to 8 units may be transferred.

Two Competency Courses - 8 units
Four Core Courses - 16 units
One Capstone Course - 4 units
Three Specialization Courses- 12 units
Four specialization areas are offered.
- Geographic Information Systems Solution Development
- Cyber Security & Crisis Management
- Social Technologies
- Health Informatics
Students take three courses in one of these areas or work with a faculty member to design a customized track. This flexibility allows students to develop expertise in one or more sub-fields as desired. Additional information is available on the department website. One Practicum Course- 4 units
In consultation with a faculty advisor, students select a practicum course to fulfill this requirement. |
