Applied Women’s Studies, MA

Academic Program

Degree requirements for the Applied Women’s Studies program include: 16 required units (4 of these are for the internship), 12 units in the student’s concentration, and 8 units of electives, for a total of 36 units. 


Students admitted to the Applied Women’s Studies program must read carefully the Applied Women’s Studies Student Handbook for the year in which they began the program and the Registration and Degree Information   in this Bulletin for a complete, detailed listing of requirements.

Concentration (12 units)


The concentration allows a student to specialize in an area of study such as politics, humanities, education, or develop expertise in an area of interest (e.g., educational policies, environmental issues, women’s leadership, and others).

Electives (8 units)


Students can use the electives to add further analytical tools, such as data analysis, statistics, or legal research methods, to broaden their knowledge of a social issue or to gain expertise in other feminist methodologies.
