Leadership, MA

The Master of Arts in Leadership program is a hybrid program in organizational leadership for working professionals. It is designed for students seeking skill development and additional credentials to advance into more senior leadership roles. The program is designed for those learners who want to gain knowledge and skills with the people aspects of leading an organization rather than the broader set of business skills.

Graduates of the MA in Leadership program will have developed leader self-awareness, practiced interpersonal sensitivity and communication, demonstrated creativity and innovation in the analyses and presentation of information, identified the challenges of leading in diverse and cross-cultural organizations, and articulated a vision and strategy for effective intervention and change.

Degree Requirements

Coursework.  The degree requires 30 units of coursework, comprised as follows.

Core courses (22 units)

Division of Behavioral and Organizational Sciences (8 units)

  • Diversity and Team Leadership
  • Leadership Ethics and CSR
  • Organizational Culture and Design
  • Leading Innovation and Change

Drucker School of Management (8 units)

  • Drucker Philosophy
  • The Executive Mind
  • Leadership Practicum I
  • Leadership Practicum II

School of Arts & Humanities (2 units)

  • Effective Leader Story Telling

Center for Information Systems & Technology (2 units)

  • Leading through Data

Transdisciplinary Studies Program (2 units)

  • Global Leadership

Electives (8 units)

Students are free to take any 8 units in electives from across CGU to contextualize their leadership degree to their particular professional needs.

All course enrollments should be discussed with and approved by the student’s advisor.

Minimum Grade Requirements.  The University’s policy on Satisfactory Academic Progress applies. The MA in Leadership program requires students to pass the core courses with a grade of B- or better.

Thesis.  A thesis is not required but may be completed with the consent of the student’s advisor.
