Music and Arts Management, MA (Interfield Degree)

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Master’s Degrees

The MA in Music and Arts Management MA is designed for a new generation of musicians and creative professionals who are looking to build the foundations of a critical music practice alongside familiarity of how arts organizations function and entrepreneurial acumen.

The MA in Music and Arts Management MA combines courses in the history and theory of music with law, finance and accounting, the dynamics of arts institutions and cultural policy. In contrast to the traditional MA in Music, which prepares students for performance careers, candidates for the Music and Arts Management degree pursue an entrepreneurship sequence which is capped by a course called the 7 Steps to Startup, in which creative initiatives of all sorts are planned. In practice, many musicians either find themselves in roles administering music organizations such as symphonies, or begin their own studios as teachers.

The MA in Music and Arts Management is for musicians or those with a passion for music, at any stage in their careers, who are looking to expand their knowledge of music history or theory, while also harnessing the skills and competencies demanded by a wide range of creative industries today.
