Religion at CGU is a community of scholars dedicated to understanding the contributions of religion to human cultures. Decades of excellence have been characterized by a unique and historic cooperation of the program with the Claremont School of Theology and now Claremont Lincoln University, and a close collaboration with faculties of The Claremont Colleges and other CGU disciplines. These resources have forged a leading graduate program in religion, one that provides students with outstanding opportunities for developing their own intellectual interests and for excelling in their chosen fields.
Faculty employ a rich diversity of critical methodologies to study a wide variety of texts, practices, and traditions from across the globe and from many different eras. Degrees and research opportunities focus on four areas of concentration.
- Critical Comparative Scriptures
- History of Christianity and Religions of North America
- Philosophy of Religion and Theology
- Women’s Studies in Religion
