The certificate requires five, 4-unit courses, three of which must be CGU courses. The mission of the IDBS is to examine through various academic disciplines the experiences of people of African heritage worldwide. The Black studies curriculum helps to unify an important area of intellectual investigation and enhances the appreciation of particular disciplines in the humanities and the social sciences.   Examples of Courses OfferedCGU applicants and current students should note that most of the following representative courses are offered at the undergraduate Claremont Colleges. Only upper-division undergraduate courses may be taken for graduate credit,with faculty approval:
