Program

The Human Resource Management (HRM) program is designed to prepare students to meet the strategic challenges of an increasingly dynamic workforce and global community. Throughout their time in the program, students will develop the competencies and confidence needed to make an impact in the field of human resources. Upon completion of the program, students will:

  • Understand how economic, social, regulatory, and technical changes affect HR requirements and costs
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of critical human resource functions, including strategy, workforce planning, training and development, compensation, job analysis and job design, recruitment, selection, performance management, organizational culture, employment law, and global HR
  • Design and lead organizational change
  • Design effective HR initiatives and build buy-in from internal and external stakeholders
  • Effectively navigate ethical issues in HRCultivate more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizations Collect, analyze, and interpret key HR metrics
  • Apply strategic HR management practices to their organizations

Program Requirements

The MS HRM program is a 2 year, 36- or 40-unit program with a curriculum that consists of courses in the following categories:

  • Prerequisite (4 units)
  • Core courses (32 units)
  • Electives (4 units)

 

TRANSFER UNITS

Students with prior graduate-level training can transfer up to 6 units toward the MS HRM degree. To replace a required course, the transferred units must be from equivalent courses and approved by the program director. Otherwise, transfer units can be applied toward the 4 elective units. Units can be transferred only if taken prior to beginning the MS HRM program.

 

DUAL DEGREES

Some MS HRM students pursue Dual Degrees. Most commonly, students earn an MS in Human Resource Management and MA in Psychology degree (Organizational Behavior or Positive Organizational Psychology concentrations) or an MS in Human Resource Management and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree through CGU’s Drucker School of Business.

Inquiries about other dual degree programs should be discussed with your academic advisor and the applicable program department before the completion of your MS HRM program.
