The Religion Department at Claremont Graduate University contributes to the disciplined study of religion, including–but also transcending–considerations of particular communities of belief and practice. Members of the faculty conduct innovative research advancing the critical scholarly analysis of religion. The department trains graduate students with the theories, methods, and knowledge that they need to participate in and shape the study of religion in the 21st century, as well as to apply those tools to productive careers outside the academy.
Building on collaborative relationships within Arts & Humanities, with other CGU departments, with the Claremont School of Theology, and with The Claremont Colleges, the Religion department provides students with outstanding opportunities for developing their own intellectual interests and for excelling in their chosen fields.
The Religion Department offers both master’s and doctoral degrees, with concentrations as listed for each degree program.
