Program-Specific Application Requirements

• Statement of purpose
• Three letters of recommendation
• GRE only required for Musicology concentration (MA in Music) and the PhD in Musicology.
• Audition required for performance concentration applicants
  • Taped recordings may be accepted in place of a personal appearance for applicants outside of Southern California for whom travel to campus would prove difficult. Applicants with a concentration in composition should submit representative samples of their work.

• English Proficiency Examination Scores (international applicants only)
  • Applicants to the Music programs, whose IELTS score is a 5.0 or 5.5, may be considered for admission into our International Scholars Program in cases where the student’s academic program and holistic review of all their credentials suggest they have potential to succeed. These exceptional cases must be approved by both the academic Dean and the Dean of Admissions. See the Addendum  to this Bulletin for a correction to this policy.
