Business Administration, Professional MBA

The Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA) is a degree for early career managers with at least 5 years of professional work experience and at least one year of supervisory/management experience.   The degree is aimed at  high-potential, fully-employed professionals who are looking to enrich their resumes with the credibility earned through an MBA.

Admission requirements are detailed in the Admission  section of the Bulletin.

Degree Requirements

Core Courses.  24 to 28 units of coursework are required, distributed through the following areas.

  • Financial Accounting (4 units)
  • Organizational Behavior (2-4 units)
  • Corporate Finance (4 units)
  • Marketing Management (2-4 units)
  • Quantitative Methods (4 units)
  • Operations (2-4 units)
  • Strategy (4 units)

Assessment, Professional Development Plan, and Executive Coaching. Within the first semester of study, each student is scheduled for and completes a battery of assessments aimed at identifying individual skill and knowledge needs, clarifying academic and career goals, and providing insight relative to leadership, communication, and learning styles and preferences.

Executive coaching is provided in tandem with creation of a professional development plan.  At program mid-point, at program completion, and ad hoc throughout the program, executive coaching supports the student and provides course corrections/revisions as needed.

Customized Professional Pathway.  Assessment results are merged with the student’s personal career goals and used to create a professional development plan.  The plan includes a customized and focused academic path of 24-28 units, including courses which may be transdisciplinary in nature.  These courses constitute the Customized Professional Pathway, which may be recorded on the student’s transcript.
