ISP 255 - Foundations in Graduate Academic Discourse II, Listening and Speaking

This course will offer international students strategies for advanced listening skills, in particular in the graduate classroom in both face-to-face and online settings. Did you know that listening is the skill that advanced language learners most often identify as the toughest skill to “learn”? That is because it is a skill that must be acquired through practice and cannot simply be taught. Not only will we perfect those skills, but we will also be polishing your academic speaking for maximum class participation and oral presentation in both face-to-face and online classes. Students will be giving “pitches” as well as creating podcasts. We will also be discussing why participation via speaking and listening is culturally important to the American graduate classroom and your future grades. Students do not need to enroll in the first course, ISP 205, in order to register for ISP 255.
Prerequisite(s) None.
